Excellent research as well as oral and written communication skills and attention to detail are required. The Walnut Creek office of Kilpatrick Townsend is seeking a full-time, entry-level Patent Engineer. A Patent Engineer is a professional that will help prepare patent applications for inventions and responses to Office Actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and from foreign patent offices. Patent Engineering is suitable for individuals that enjoy learning about different inventions and who like to read and write. Patent engineers work towards certification as Patent Agents that are licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Starting salaries are competitive with other industries.

The successful candidate will be a recent graduate or scheduled to graduate in 2020 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Physics. Other degrees will be considered if the candidate has taken a reasonable number of programming courses and had obtained good grades in them. A strong mathematics background is highly desirable. A minimum GPA of 3.0 and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
